Weekend Happenings in the DMV: May 2nd-4th

May has officially arrived and what better way to celebrate the start of the month than getting out and participating in some of the great events going on around the DMV! From flowers, to food and festivals, there are a lot of wonderful events taking place this weekend.

Washington, DC Events:

Anchorman: The Exhibit Anchorman the Exhibit

The Newseum dedicates an entire exhibition to the exploits of anchorman Ron Burgundy and the Channel 4 Evening News team.

The annual National Cathedral Flower Mart is an outdoor festival, held rain or shine, for garden enthusiasts and families. The festival features annuals, perennials, landscape exhibits, Olmsted Woods and Garden Tours, live music and entertainment, tasty food, a book sale, and children’s activities such as a rock wall, moon bounce, mini-Ferris wheel and a century-old restored carousel.

District Flea

District Flea is an outdoor market in the U Street area of Washington, DC featuring a collection of antiques, vintage clothing, handmade furniture and jewelry, and delicious fresh food. A collaboration between local vendors and the folks that started Brooklyn Flea, District Flea hosts 100+ collectors, makers, and chefs from in and around DC, Baltimore, Philly and New York.

Washington DC Funk Parade

The Funk Parade is a brand new, unique event that will bring people together with music, dance, and the visual arts. The parade celebrates the heritage of the historic U Street district with live musical performances, craft vendors and delicious food. The party won’t end at 5:00—make sure you check out the nearby popular music venues for a free funk-inspired show!

DC Design House 2014

DC Design House is an annual project that brings together Washington, DC’s top interior designers to transform and showcase a house using the best in today’s home renovation and design ideas. The proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Children’s National Health System.

Cinco de Mayo Festival

Brought to you by the Maru Montero Dance Company, the National Cinco de Mayo Festival in an annual celebration featuring live music and dance, children’s arts and crafts workshops, food, games and activities for all. VA Gold Cup Races 2014

The Virginia Gold Cup is one of the largest and oldest outdoor events in the Washington, DC area. The annual steeplechase race is held on the first Saturday in May in the heart of Virginia horse country.
