Weekend Happenings in the DMV: August 8th-10th

Even though summer is winding down, there are still a lot of great events going on around the DMV! Be sure to check one of them out this weekend!

Washington, DC Events:

Splash Yards at Yards Park splash yards

Price: Free
Get out the bathing suits and gather the crew for the biggest water festival DC’s ever seen! Splash Yards will feature an Epic Water Battle, live DJ music, tiki bar, frozen drinks, lawn games, water slides, surfboard water games, lounge stations, misting tent, giant Instagram photo booth, and more! Buckets of water and water soakers and blasters will be provided.

Relax at the DC Fairgrounds while sampling over a dozen world-class wines and experiencing the latest sounds in modern and classic jazz. This year’s lineup includes Warren Wolf and Wolf Pack, the R&B and soul sounds of Soul Understated featuring Mavis ‘Swan’ and returning for a second year Funk Ark.  

The Glo Run

The Glo Run is a 5K Run through a dream world of glowing wonders! The event will have a music throughout and a DJ at the finish line. Registration includes a neon shirt, 3 pc GloGear, Bib ticket, and Post DJ Party.

Maryland Events:

Cinema Al Fresco Open Air Film Festival

Time: Fridays Thru September
Price: FREE Admission
Italian-themed movies are projected on the outside of the Ciao Bella Restaurant, and movie-goers can enjoy free popcorn. Live music and dancing begins at 7 p.m., while screenings start at 8:30 p.m. or 9 p.m., depending on the length of the film. This Friday’s movie is Moonstruck. 

Howard County Fair

The Howard County Fair is an annual tradition with fun attractions including livestock exhibits, carnival rides and games, musical entertainment, educational demonstrations, and an animal petting zoo. The Fair hosts daily horse shows, pony rides, tractor pulls, and livestock competitions and the most popular contests include the Pretty Baby Contest, Talent Show and Cow Milking Contest.

The annual event in Manassas, Virginia is the largest fair in VA and great for all ages, families and friends! The fair has plenty of entertainment with livestock exhibits, a variety of midway shows, truck and tractor pulls, Monster Trucks, Lawnmower Racing, a rodeo, demolition derbies, baby contests, pet shows, live music, storytelling, games and carnival rides.

Every Friday night through August, venture out to the Mosaic District to watch films on the big screen! During July, they offer the Food and Film series, with this Friday’s movie being Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
