It’s finally Halloween weekend! Get into the spooky spirit this weekend with some great themed events happening all across the DMV!

Washington, DC Events:

Time: Friday-Sunday from 10:00am to 8:00pm (Fri); 10:00am to 6:00pm (Sat); 11:00am to 5:00pm (Sun)

The annual Washington Craft Show features a wide variety of contemporary crafts including metal, leather, basketry, jewelry, ceramics, glass and more. The event is one of the nation’s leading events of contemporary craft, bringing together more than 190 accomplished craft artists; making it a perfect place to shop for unique gifts and decorative items!

Day of the Dead Masquerade and Fiesta

Time: Saturday from 8:30pm to 12:00am
Cost: $84
Experience the wonders of the Mayan legends and celebrate Dia de los Muertos! The event will feature Mexican food and an open bar, Dia de los Muertos alter and ceremony, mariachi music, dance lessons, Masquerade contest, late night DJ, art gallery, film, and much more. There will also be a drawing to win a trip to Mexico!  Black tie and masquerade optional. 

The Yards
Time: Saturday from 6:00pm to 10:00pm
Cost: FREE
The Yards will be transformed this Saturday into a spooky playground celebrating Day of the Dead. The event will include live music, roaming street performers, fortune tellers, face painters, lively mariachi bands, a beer garden, and celebrity “graveyard” tours.   

Day of the Dead Celebration

Join the museum for the annual Día de los Muertos celebration to commemorate the lives of the dearly departed and welcome the return of their spirits. Attendees can learn and take part in this centuries-old tradition. On Saturday, Sandra Cisneros discusses A Room of Her Own, a Day of the Dead-inspired installation opening on 10/31. On Sunday there will be a showing of a short documentary, La Ofrenda: The Days of the Dead, exploring the various meanings of the Day of the Dead and the history of this celebration in Mexican and Chicano heritage.

Capital Maritime Music Festcapital fest

Cost: FREE, donations accepted
The Capital Maritime Music Festival celebrates the people, music and folklore of long-overlooked nautical culture of the Chesapeake Bay, Potomac River and C&O Canal. Family-friendly activities include workshops, children’s activities and performances featuring the music, folklore and history of: sea warriors, merchant sailors, African-American sailors and dockworkers, recreational sailors, maritime communities, canals and inland waterways. The event will culminate with an evening concert.

Enjoy the spookiness of Thrills by Day and the terror of Fright by Night! There is tons of family fun with Thrills by Day, noon to 6 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday with Halloween-themed shows for the family and trick or treating for kids. Fright By Night when the sun goes down, the ghouls come out. Watch as the park transforms from “Thrills by Day” to “Fright by Night.”

The newly renovated ice rink will open for the holiday season on Saturday, November 1! The plaza at Pentagon Row underwent major renovations last year to create an ice rink that is 50% larger with an outdoor dual-sided stone fireplace for lounging during skating breaks. The new ice rink is now the largest outdoor rink in Northern Virginia, and the second largest in the state!

This fun-filled, family event is centered around a dance party for kids, designed by the team from Baby Loves Disco. In the spirit of Halloween, kids can have a frighteningly fun time with their favorite Looney Toons characters as some of their spookiest episodes will be shown. Rounding out the event will be a mix of activities, including an art “make and take” project from Cuddles and Rage as well as creating your very own adorable cupcake and donut characters. 

Trick-or-Treating at Mount Vernon

Join the costumed cast of Mount Vernon for a special opportunity to trick-or-treat at the historic estate. Special events include a children’s costume parade, crafts in the greenhouse, wagon rides, Halloween-themed stories in the amphitheater and a scavenger hunt for the adventurous! Prizes will be awarded to the best “George” and “Martha” costumes.
