Trot Your Way to the Thanksgiving Table

Before indulging in everyone’s favorite meal of the year, what better way to earn those calories than starting Thanksgiving Day with a Turkey Trot?


Whether you walk, jog or run, gather the family and sign up for one of these local races. In addition to getting exercise, you’re also supporting local charity initiatives!

All races listed below occur on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 27.

Washington, D.C.

Trot for Hunger
Freedom Plaza, 13 St NW and Pennsylvania Avenue NW
8:30AM –  Kids’ Mile
9:00AM –  5K
Proceeds benefit homeless families and single adults, including the elderly and people suffering from mental illness, by providing much-needed food, clothing and healthcare.


Alexandria Turkey Trot

Please support ALIVE!, a nonprofit organization serving Alexandria’s needy, by bringing two nonperishable food items (cans, boxes) on race day.

Arlington Turkey Trot
3020 N. Pershing Dr, Arlington
8:00AM – 5K
Raises support for three local charities: Arlington-Alexandria Coalition for the Homeless (AACH), Doorways for Women & Families (Doorways), and Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC).

Fairfax Turkey Trot
9330 Pentland Place, Fairfax
9:00AM – 4 miles
Proceeds benefit Alternative House in Fairfax and Warrior Canine Connection.

Virginia Run Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot
15355 Wetherburn Court, Centreville
8:00AM – 5K run, 2K walk
All proceeds go to Life With Cancer.

Landsdowne on the Potomac Turkey Trot
43459 Riverpoint Dr., Lansdowne
8:00AM – 5K
8:05AM 1 mile Family Fun Run/Walk
The proceeds from this year’s race will benefit Boulder Crest Retreata rural sanctuary where military warriors, with combat-stress related injuries, can bring their families and enjoy non-clinical, recreational therapeutic activities.


Turkey Chase
9401 Old Georgetown Road, Bethesda
8:30AM – 10K
9:00AM – 2 miler
9:45AM – 50m Kids Run
Proceeds benefit YMCA’s Youth and Family Services, YMCA Bethesda-Chevy Chase and the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rotary Club Foundation.

Cantonsville Turkey Trot
421 Bloomsbury Avenue, Catonsville
8:30AM – 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run
100% of the proceeds benefit Cantonsville High School Cross Country Program.

Registration for the event is free, however they recommend a $5-10 donation per participant or a $20 donation for a free T-shirt.

LARS’ 10th Annual 5K Turkey Trot
424 Main Street, Laurel
8:00AM – 5K
8:05 – 1 Mile Fun Walk
Race proceeds benefit LARS, Laurel Advocacy & Referral Services.
