Weekend Happenings in the DMV: March 6th-8th

March is officially upon us! The weekend is supposed to warm up a bit and with no threat of winter weather it is the perfect opportunity to get out of the house and check out one (or more!) of the great events happening all across the DMV!

Washington, DC Events:

INTERSECTIONS Art Festivalintersections art

INTERSECTIONS is a unique arts festival featuring more than 600 artists in over 100 performances over the course of three weekends. The event includes visual art, film screenings, literary readings and dance, musical and dramatic productions plus 20 free café concerts and 25 special events. 

Travel & Adventure Show 2015

The Travel & Adventure Show allows attendees to gather information on hundreds of exciting travel destinations all at the nation’s largest active and adventure travel show! The event features a wide range of destinations around the world and an extensive array of destination vendors offering show-only travel deals, free giveaways and action-packed activities, plus educational seminars, cultural performances and more.

The DC Whiskey Walk is an awesome day of fun, excitement, entertainment and of course, excellent Irish whiskey. Whiskey Walkers will enjoy a 1-ounce taste of a different select Irish whiskey at 8 different venues in Dupont Circle. This all-day event is the perfect way to get ready for St. Patrick’s Day with great whiskey, delicious food, tasty beers, music, and the most fun you can legally have!

Whisky Live, the internationally renowned whisky tasting event series, is coming to Washington, DC for the first time! The event gives patrons the opportunity to enjoy a night out while sampling some of the best whiskies from around the world and fabulous dinner buffet. There will be live entertainment and your ticket comes with a souvenir Glencairn tasting glass and a one-year subscription to Whisky Magazine.

Pickled, Braised & Brewed: The Art of Slow Foodslow ride sessions

Join New Belgium for an afternoon of slow food, and craft beer. They are partnering with local chefs to give you a hands-on afternoon learning the art behind pickling, braised meats, and Slow Ride IPA.

14th Annual Chocolate and Candy Festival

Cost: $5 (Children under 6 receive free admission and 2 free samples)
Sample chocolate and candy from a variety of different vendors! Each paid admission receives 4 sample tickets to sample chocolate and candy from your choice of vendors. Additional sample tickets may be purchased and are $3.00 for three tickets. All tickets are sold at the door on the day of the event.

5th Annual The Pink Event

It’s women’s day out! Attend this women focused expo featuring a live performance, speakers, raffles, shopping, refreshments, swag bags and more! Lunch is available. 20% of tickets sales will be donated to a non –profit breast cancer organization called For 3 Sisters.

Fridays After Five

Cost: $12
Head over to the National Aquarium on Friday night after 5pm for discounted admission but the same amazing experience. The last entry time is 8pm and exhibits are open until 9:30pm. Buy your tickets online or on-site.


Vietnam History Dayvietnam history day

Visit the Marine Corps Museum for a day of remembrance and education focusing on Marines in the Vietnam War.  This special day will include guest speakers and displays, and members of the Museum’s Docent Core will be on hand to share their Vietnam experience.

Alexandria St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Alexandria celebrates Saint Patrick’s Day with a day of family fun events, including a classic car show at 10am, a dog show at 10:30am and a Saint Patrick’s Day Parade at 12:30pm. Hosted by the Ballyshaners, the theme of this year’s parade is “Women of Irish Heritage.”

The 12th annual Spring Backyard Burn is a series of 5 and 10 mile trail running races held on some of the best trail networks in the Northern Virginia Area.
