Weekend Happenings: August 28th thru 30th

Spend the last weekend in August checking out all of the great events happening all across the area. With everything from sports to fairs, the whole family is sure to find something to interest them!

Washington, DC Events:

United Social Sports: Nat’s Night Outnats night out

USS is back for Nationals Night Out as they take over the Scoreboard Pavilion! Cheer on the Nationals for only $35—which includes a ticket to the game and a ballpark credit, good at any stand in Nationals Park! Wear your USS shirt to win; because if 100 people wear any USS shirt to the game, $5 will be added to your player account! 

Art after Dark

Art after Dark, the 6th annual after-hours fundraising event, is a night filled with video art, performance art, raffles, live music and a DJ. This year’s event is taking shape to be the most fascinating yet!

Capital Dragon Boat Regatta
Southwest Waterfront

Time: Saturday, 9am-4pm
Cost: FREE
The Capital Dragon Boat Races is great a family-fun event to celebrate Asian culture with a dragon boat race, a part of the Chinese culture dating back 2,300+ years. The Capital Dragon Boat Regatta is an open competition and free to attend—so head to the Southwest Waterfront and enjoy a great day of racing with food on-site (for purchase, King Rib) and the Beer Garden will be open (for anyone 21+).

Maryland Events:

Baltimore Farmers’ Market & Bazaarbaltimore farmers market

Cost: Free – prices vary on items available for purchase
Baltimore’s Farmers’ Market and Bazaar is open for the season! There will be a huge variety of items available for purchase including fruits and vegetables, baked goods, dairy products, and dozens of food vendors! Vegan food items will be available.

Maryland State Fair

Cost: Adult Admission $8; Senior Admission $6; Child Admission $3
This annual tradition will include all of the fair staples. There will be games, rides, livestock, food, and more!

Farm-to-Fork Frederick

Maryland Renaissance Festivalmaryland renaissance festival

Come out for a recreation of a 16th century English village. There will be crafts, food booths, pubs, performances, a Jousting area, games and more!

The 8th annual Redskins Rides is a classic, custom, and exotic car on the Redskins practice fields with great food, and family fun! Families, sports fans and car enthusiasts are welcome to get autographs, see what the players drive, and see all the amazing rides!

Port City’s Oktoberfest Releaseport city

It’s that time of year again—opening season for Port City’s Oktoberfest, the award-winning lager brewed with all German malts and hops! The event will have the Port City Tasting Room open for extra hours, Rocklands BBQ and Borinquen Lunch Box food trucks, live music, among other Oktoberfest treats.

SPCA Charity Dog Washdog wash
Weber’s Pet Supermarket

Time: Saturday, 11am-4pm
Cost: $10-25 donations requested, dependent on dog’s size
The SPCA NoVA Dog wash will help the raise much-needed funds to rescue and care for homeless animals waiting for new homes. Volunteers will wash your dog, clean their ears, trim their nails, and get them looking and smelling good for a great price!

Beach Events:

42nd Annual Virginia Beach Neptune Festival
265 Kings Grant Rd., Suite 102

Cost: Free Admission
Enjoy the Neptune Art Show, beer and wine tastings, sporting events, and more as we celebrate the beach life! This long running festival begins this weekend but will continue through October 6th. During this time there will be a series of over 40 events.neptune festival

Cape Hatteras Lighthouse Full Moon Climb
8210 Bodie Island Lighthouse Rd.
Nags Head, NC
Time: Saturday, 8pm-8:45pm or 9pm to 9:45pm
Cost: Adult $8, Children $4
Join the National Park Service as they take you on a climb at the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. You will be able to visit the lantern room, hear stories of keepers of old, and stand on the lighthouse balcony as you see the Atlantic Ocean reflect under a full moon. You can only purchase your tickets on Saturday between 8:15am and 5:30pm in person at the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse ticket booth.

North American Sea Glass Festivalsea glass festival

Time: Saturday-Sunday, 10am-5pm
Cost: $5, children under 12 are free
There will be over 50 Sea Glass Artist, Sea Glass Collectors’ Exhibits, educational presentations, authors, and more. Come out to the 10th Anniversary and share in the passion for sea glass!
