Shamrock Shake Recipe

St. Patrick’s Day week is upon us! Follow along to make your own Shamrock Shake with this easy recipe from Epicurious.


This can be kid-friendly or turned up a notch for an adult version. Either way its a palate-pleasing sweet treat that everyone is sure to love!

Shamrock Shake


  • 1 1/2 cups vanilla ice cream
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 10 drops green food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract (or 1 shot of Peppermint Schnapps for the adult version)
  • Whipped cream (optional)
  • Green Sprinkles (optional)
  • 1 Maraschino cherry


shamrock shakeIn a blender, combine vanilla ice cream, milk, green food coloring, and peppermint extract. Process until smooth, about 30 seconds.

Pour the shake into a glass and top with whipped cream, sprinkles and a Maraschino cherry.

Makes 1 shake

Crock Pot Corned Beef and Cabbage

St. Patrick’s day is right around the corner and today we have an easy, wholesome meal that your entire family is sure to love!

This holiday has us craving comfort food, and corned beef and cabbage is a sure way to satisfy that craving.

The best thing about this recipe from Food.com is that it will be ready at the end of a long work day. Throw all the ingredients in your crock pot in the morning and come home to a fabulous meal that will impress your family or guests!

Corned Beef & Cabbage


  • 4 cups hot water
  • 2 tablespoons cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1⁄2 teaspoon fresh ground pepper
  • 1 large onion, cut into quarters
  • 3 lbs corned beef brisket (with spices)
  • 8 small white potatoes or 8 small yellow potatoes, scrubbed and cut into quarters
  • 1 head cabbage, cored and cut into 10 wedges (about 1 1/2 pounds)
  • 4-5 carrots, cut into 1 inch pieces


  • Combine water vinegar, sugar, pepper and onions in a 6 qt crock pot and mix well.
  • Add corned beef and contents of spice packet in the mixture.
  • Scatter the potatoes over the top and along the sides.
  • Cover and cook on high heat setting for 4 hours.
  • After 4 hours, remove the lid and scatter the cabbage wedges over the top.
  • Cover and continue cooking on high 3-4 hours longer, or until beef is tender.
  • To serve, carve the beef into slices against the grain and serve with the cabbage and potatoes, with some of the cooking liquid spooned on top of the beef to keep it moist.

Serves: 6-8

The City of Manassas celebrates St. Patrick’s Day each year with a community parade featuring Irish dance groups, the Northern Virginia Firefighters Emerald Society Pipe and Drum, Washington Scottish Pipe and Drum, Fairfax County Sheriff’s Coalition Pipe and Drum, the Marine Corps Color Guard and other area groups and organizations.
